Radial
Keratotomy is performed where lasik procedures could not be done.
Conditions like, High Cylinders and Residual powers are corrected by
radial keratotomy. In radial keratotomy, the surgeon precisely places microscopic incisions in the cornea using an ultra-thin, specially designed, diamond scalpel. The incision is performed to reach about 90% of the corneal thickness without perforating it. Typically, four to eight incisions radiate outward from a central clear zone that remains untouched.
Current surgical techniques are based on nomograms derived from clinical experience that designate the depth, length, and number of incisions for the correction of approximately 1.50 to 5.00 diopters of myopia. |

Note the spoke like incisions in the
cornea. These markings are not visible without the use of
special instruments |
